Preview: Riverside Vikings vs. Mid Valley Spartans
The Riverside Vikings will be playing in front of their home fans against the Mid Valley Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Last Thursday, things could have been worse for Riverside, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 48-31 loss to Dunmore. While losing is never fun, Riverside can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 324th, while Dunmore is ranked 114th).
In what's become a running theme this season, Mid Valley gave their fans yet another huge win on Friday. They claimed a resounding 52-12 victory over Forest City at home. The squad ran away with 45 points in the first half and mostly just sat on those to pick up the victory.
It was another big night for Krista Cortazar, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Emilee Tomsak was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with two steals.
Riverside's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Mid Valley, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-5.
Riverside ended up a good deal behind Mid Valley in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, losing 58-43. Can Riverside avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
