Football Recap: Lawrence Free State Comes Up Short

Lawrence Free State was the 24-14 winner over Lawrence when they last played one another back in October of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Firebirds took a hard 24-6 fall against the Lions on Friday. The contest marked the Firebirds' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Lawrence found their leader in sophomore Joey Dooley, who rushed for 114 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 7.1 yards per carry, and also threw for 51 yards and one TD. The Lions also got a significant boost from Ethan Curry, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 99 yards.

This is the second loss in a row for Lawrence Free State and nudges their season record down to 5-3. As for Lawrence, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-7.

As of now, neither Lawrence Free State nor the Lions have any future games scheduled.
