Basketball Recap: Maywood Academy Comes Up Short

Maywood Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were a single point away from ending the streak, but they lost a 41-40 heartbreaker at the hands of the Sotomayor Wolves. While the Nighthawks didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Wolves 16-4 in the first quarter.

Sotomayor got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Natalia Gonzalez out in front who posted ten points. Another player making a difference was Ashley Castillo, who scored eight points.

Maywood Academy's loss dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Sotomayor, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season.

Maywood Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 53-25 defeat against Marquez on the 24th. As for Sotomayor, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 41-14 victory against Torres on the 24th.
