Baseball Game Preview: Apalachee Wildcats vs. Winder-Barrow Bulldoggs

Apalachee is 2-8 against Winder-Barrow since April of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Apalachee Wildcats will be playing at home against the Winder-Barrow Bulldoggs at 5:55 p.m. The last three games Apalachee has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Apalachee fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Winder-Barrow on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Bulldoggs by a score of 5-4.

Russell Malcom made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Apalachee's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 5-7 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of JJ Gonzalez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-5.

The win made it two in a row for Winder-Barrow and bumps their season record up to 8-5. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for Apalachee, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 7-8.
