Baseball Recap: Augusta Prep Comes Up Short

John Hancock Academy hit Augusta Prep with a five-run third inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Cavaliers took a 10-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Rebels. The Cavaliers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Rebels earlier this season, when they won 7-4.

Shae Joniec made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two RBI. He has become a key player for Augusta Prep: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 6-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Parker Hollimon, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one double.

Augusta Prep has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-9 record this season. As for John Hancock Academy, the victory snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 4-11 record.

Looking ahead, Augusta Prep will challenge Monsignor Donovan Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for John Hancock Academy, they are taking a road trip to square off against Twiggs Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
