Basketball Recap: Newbury Park's Loss Ends Seven-Game Winning Streak on the Road

It was a proper cat-fight when Newbury Park took on Oaks Christian on Friday. The Newbury Park Panthers fell to the Oaks Christian Lions 42-36. The Panthers were probably out for revenge after losing 43-41 to them when the teams met back in January of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Despite the defeat, Newbury Park had strong showings from Skylar Komatsu, who posted ten points along with six steals and five assists, and Greta Heath, who scored 12 points and four steals. Newbury Park is 11-5 when Komatsu posts five or more steals, but 3-5 otherwise.

Oaks Christian got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Presley Kushner out in front who earned 17 points. Bonita Liu was another key player, putting up ten points and seven rebounds.

Newbury Park's loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-10. As for Oaks Christian, their record now sits at 7-14.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Oaks Christian beat Newbury Park by a score of 53-51 on Monday.
