Softball Recap: Castle View Has No Trouble Against Heritage

Castle View's game on Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. Everything went their way against the Heritage Eagles as they made off with a 14-4 win. The result was nothing new for the Sabercats, who have now won four matches by ten runs or more so far this season.

Alexa Trunnell was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Trunnell was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Katie Husum, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Mary Kraus was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Castle View was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Castle View pushed their record up to 5-8 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.3 runs over those games. As for Heritage, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-9.

Coming up, Castle View is taking a road trip to square off against Fruita Monument at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Heritage, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Douglas County at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Huskies have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.21 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of.
