Basketball Game Preview: Poly Bears vs. Moreno Valley Vikings

The Poly Bears will square off against the Moreno Valley Vikings at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Poly is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games.

Poly's tournament run continued when they took on Apple Valley on Monday. In a tight matchup that could have gone either way, Poly made off with a 45-44 victory over Apple Valley.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Poly to victory, but perhaps none more so than Abby Folsom, who posted 21 points. That makes it ten consecutive games in which Folsom has scored at least a third of Poly's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Reagan Metzger, who had 14 points.

Meanwhile, Moreno Valley is ranked highly in their home state and two weeks ago they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Legend. Moreno Valley came out on top against Legend by a score of 58-45.

Moreno Valley found their leader in sophomore Alaysha Mills, who almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine boards. The dominant performance also gave Mills a new career-high in assists (six). Another player making a difference was Leiayjah Mills, who went 5 of 10 on her way to 13 points.

Moreno Valley is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.0 points per game. As for Poly, they now have a winning record of 8-7.

Poly was able to grind out a solid win over Moreno Valley in their previous meeting back in December of 2019, winning 54-45. Will Poly repeat their success, or does Moreno Valley have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
