Football Recap: Conner Petrov Key Part of Team Effort in Pioneers Win + How To Watch

Simi Valley not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since October 10, 2024 (when they won 56-7). Everything went their way against the Thousand Oaks Lancers as they made off with a 48-28 victory. The win continues a trend for the Pioneers in their matchups with the Lancers: they've now won six in a row.

Simi Valley got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Conner Petrov out in front who rushed for 64 yards and a pair of scores on only seven carries, and also threw for 289 yards and two TDs while picking up 13.1 yards per attempt. Those 64 rushing yards gave Petrov a new career-high. Quentin McGahan was in the mix as well, providing Simi Valley with two touchdowns.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Simi Valley was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 212 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Thousand Oaks lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Jackson Taylor, who threw for 251 yards and four TDs. He has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last four times he's played. Hayden Vercher was Taylor's top target, picking up 100 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Simi Valley's win bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Thousand Oaks, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 4-1.

Simi Valley and Thousand Oaks will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next matches. The next time the Pioneers see the field they'll take on St. Bonaventure at 7:00 p.m. on October 3. As for Thousand Oaks, their break will end when they face Calabasas at 7:00 p.m. on October 3.
