Volleyball Recap: Athens Drive Takes a Loss

Athens Drive was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Cary Imps. The Jaguars were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Imps earlier this season, when they won 3-2.

Athens Drive actually scored more points across those five sets (106-99), but sadly they still had to settle for second. The final score came out to 18-25, 26-24, 25-21, 15-25, 15-11.

Despite the defeat, Athens Drive saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Annie Baublitz had six digs and three aces. Baublitz has been hot recently, having posted three or more aces the last three times she's played.

Athens Drive's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Cary, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Athens Drive will take on Felton Grove at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Cary, they will challenge Broughton at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
