Baseball Recap: Monroe Sets Scoring Season-High Against Calhoun County

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Monroe). They were the clear victors by a 29-1 margin over the Calhoun County Cougars on Wednesday. With that win, the Golden Tornadoes brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.

Talen Pugh was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Daylon Coley was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI.

Pugh wasn't the only one making solid contact: Monroe kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Monroe's victory bumped their record up to 7-12. As for Calhoun County, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Monroe will take on Westover at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Golden Tornadoes are facing the Patriots at the right time seeing as the Patriots are stuck on a 14-game losing streak. As for Calhoun County, they are taking a road trip to take on Southwest Georgia STEM Charter at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
