Crusaders display talent, depth in knocking off three ranked teams in Arizona.

There's a new No. 1 atop the MaxPreps Top 25 high school girls basketball rankings. After blitzing through the Nike Tournament of Champions top bracket prior to Christmas, Long Island Lutheran (Brookville, N.Y.) ascends to the head of the class after downing Sidwell Friends (Washington, D.C.) and La Jolla Country Day (La Jolla, Calif.) on back-to-back nights.

The Crusaders delivered three straight wins over ranked teams in Arizona: No. 18 Archbishop Mitty (San Jose, Calif.) 70-48, No. 5 Sidwell Friends 63-60 and No. 6 La Jolla Country Day 63-50 in the championship game.

LuHi got big performances from post Kate Koval and point guard Kayleigh Heckel. Ka'Shya Hawkins, Syla Swords and Lauryn Swann contributed in key moments and freshman Savannah Swords showed a legitimate all-around game. Koval and Hawkins made the all-tournament team while Heckel was the MVP after a 22-point performance against La Jolla Country Day.

But the most impressive win for the Crusaders might've been the three-point semifinal win over Sidwell as LuHi overcame a 19-point effort from Jadyn Donovan and made a 10-point lead entering the fourth quarter stand up.
