Football Game Preview: Godinez Fundamental Grizzlies vs. Saddleback Roadrunners

For the first time this season, Godinez Fundamental will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will face off against the Saddleback Roadrunners at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

On Friday, Godinez Fundamental came up short against Katella and fell 28-20. While the Grizzlies had to settle for second, they closed the game well in the third quarter, where they outscored the Knights 6-0.

Despite the loss, Godinez Fundamental saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Adrian Ramirez rushed for 90 yards and one TD. Ivan Paz made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.

Even if they lost, Godinez Fundamental's defense still kept up the pressure with five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Joseph Cadena and Christopher Diaz, who racked up four sacks between them. Cadena also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with eight. Paz got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Saddleback, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They breezed past Beverly Hills to the tune of 54-6 on Friday. That looming 54-6 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Roadrunners yet this season.

Saddleback's win came from a few key players Godinez Fundamental will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Andre Scott, who threw for 124 yards and three touchdowns while completing 87.5% of his passes. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in passer rating (166.7). Fabian Bravo helped Scott out on the ground, rushing for 57 yards and a pair of scores.

Saddleback's record now sits at 4-2. As for Godinez Fundamental, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-4.

Godinez Fundamental came up short against Saddleback when the teams last played back in October of 2024, falling 25-19. Can the Grizzlies avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
