Football Game Preview: Lyford Bulldogs vs. Rio Hondo Bobcats

The Lyford Bulldogs will head out on the road to square off against the Rio Hondo Bobcats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (Lyford 13.2, Rio Hondo 12) so any points scored will be well earned.

On Friday, Lyford came up short against Raymondville and fell 20-13.

Although Lyford took the loss, they still got scores from Sean Gamez and Riley Reyna.

Meanwhile, Rio Hondo put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They breezed past Falfurrias to the tune of 42-13. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 28-6.

Lyford better keep an eye on Matthew Lopez. He was instrumental in Rio Hondo's win, throwing for 165 yards and five TDs on only ten passes, while also rushing for 64 yards. What's more, Lopez racked up 143.8 passer rating, the most he's had since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Mario Lopez, who rushed for 104 yards and one touchdown on only ten carries.

Lyford's defeat dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Rio Hondo, their victory bumped their record up to 6-0.

Lyford might still be hurting after the 20-0 loss they got from Rio Hondo in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Can the Bulldogs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
