Basketball Recap: Athens Takes a Loss

Athens lost against Troy back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Athens Wildcats fell 50-39 to the Troy Trojans. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 236th, while the Trojans are ranked 93rd).

Troy had a senior duo take command as Alyssa Parks went 7 for 13 on her way to 19 points and five boards and Kailyn Sterling went 6 of 7 to rack up 12 points and five rebounds. What's more, Sterling also posted a 86% field goal percentage, which is the highest she's posted since back in February of 2024. Giana Renzi was another key player, putting up nine points.

Athens' loss dropped their record down to 11-5. As for Troy, their win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-4.

Coming up, Athens will be playing in front of their home fans against Wyalusing Valley at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Troy, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 57-48 victory against Jersey Shore on the 8th.
