York has gone 7-1 against Leyden recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Dukes will welcome the Eagles at 11:00 a.m.
York managed to slip by Lincoln-Way Central the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Dukes lost 13-3 to the Knights on Monday. The loss put an end to the Dukes' undefeated start to the season.
York got a good showing from Will Kellam, who tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.
At the plate, York saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mason Shorter, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Chris Winton was another, earning one run and two stolen bases.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Leyden, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They came out on top against Maine East by a score of 7-3 on Monday. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Blue Demons: they've now won four in a row.
Julian Martinez was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three). He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jacob Ganir, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run. Another player making a difference was Joseph O'Neill, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Leyden's win bumped their record up to 2-5. As for York, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.
York beat Leyden 5-2 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Dukes repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
