Baseball Recap: Deerfield Takes a Loss

Deerfield had lost five straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped down to 8-21 to make it six. They lost 11-2 to the Mundelein Mustangs. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Warriors of the 8-2 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2025.

As for Mundelein, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games.

For Mundelein's part, Logan Young made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over four innings pitched. Young has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Maddox Solum and Dan Stricklin did most of the damage at the plate: Solum went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Stricklin got on base in two of his three plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave Stricklin a new career-high. Frankie Lesniak was another key player, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Deerfield will take on Amundsen at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. As for Mundelein, they will face off against Glenbrook North at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
