Football Preview: London Pirates vs. Tuloso-Midway Warriors & Cherokees
The London Pirates will face off against the Tuloso-Midway Warriors & Cherokees at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
London is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 45 points last Thursday, they were much more limited against Refugio on Friday. They had to suffer through a 64-7 loss at the hands of the Bobcats. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 658th, while the Bobcats are ranked 234th).
Meanwhile, Tuloso-Midway made easy work of Ray on Friday and carried off a 55-29 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Warriors & Cherokees.
Damian Figueroa was a one-man wrecking crew for Tuloso-Midway as he rushed for 319 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 11.8 yards per carry. Noah Zermeno got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Tuloso-Midway wouldn't let Ray keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Tuloso-Midway can thank Brayden Genzer and Zermeno for forcing both of them. Zermeno also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, forcing a fumble and making a tackle in addition to snagging an interception which he returned one-yard for a touchdown.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Tuloso-Midway was moving up and down the field and finished the game with 471 total yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ray only gained 313.
London's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Tuloso-Midway, their win bumped their record up to 2-0.
