Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Queen's Grant

Queen's Grant barely beat Piedmont Community Charter the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Stallions blew past the Patriots 12-2 on Friday. Considering the Stallions have won five games by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Addi Benton made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nicole Strickland-Mitchell, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Harmony Hernandez, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.

Queen's Grant was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .522. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The win was the third in a row for Queen's Grant, bringing their record up to 7-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Piedmont Community Charter, their loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 3-5.

Queen's Grant has already played their next contest, a 6-2 defeat against Gaston Christian on the 30th. As for Piedmont Community Charter, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 9-3 loss against Highland Tech on the 30th.
