Basketball Recap: Shayla Sarmiento's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Santana over West Hills

If Santana was feeling good fresh off their 54-23 takedown of Mount Miguel last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Santana Sultans lost 42-22 to the West Hills Wolf Pack on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Sultans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 643rd, while the Wolf Pack are ranked 296th).

Several Sultans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Shayla Sarmiento, who posted seven points.

Jordan Dillon was her usual excellent self, putting up 13 points along with eight rebounds and three steals for West Hills. Dillon is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Amber Froehlich, who had five points and six boards.

Santana's defeat dropped their record down to 22-6. As for West Hills, the win was the 11th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 20-6.

Santana has already played their next matchup, a 41-12 victory against San Pasqual on the 22nd. As for West Hills, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 48-21 win against Granite Hills on the 19th.
