Softball Recap: Friday's Victory Is Horizon's 14th in Last 18 Outings

Horizon posted their closest victory since August 30th on Friday. They won by a run and slipped past the Liberty Lancers 9-8.

Kaiya Barela was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and seven unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 18 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI.

In other batting news, Bryanna Fontes was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tessa Munsch, who went 1-for-3 with two runs.

Horizon has been performing well recently as they've won 14 of their last 18 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Liberty, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-14.

Coming up, Horizon will challenge Arvada West at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Liberty does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
