Football Recap: Southland Takes Down Hayfield in a Playoff Battle

It's playoff time, and Southland had no trouble coming through when it counted. They breezed past the Hayfield Vikings to the tune of 36-0 on Tuesday. Considering the Rebels have won four contests by more than 29 points this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

It was another big night for Henry Wiste, who rushed for 59 yards and one touchdown, and also threw for 83 yards and a pair of TDs. He got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 50 yards. Lucas Boe made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.

Southland didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Cael Smith and Boe. Smith got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Southland is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 13.0 points on average over those games. As for Hayfield, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7.

Looking ahead, Southland will head out to square off against Lewiston-Altura at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hayfield does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
