Basketball Recap: Berkeley Ashby Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Harbor

Aptos won the last time they faced Harbor and things went their way on Saturday too. The Aptos Mariners strolled past the Harbor Pirates with points to spare, taking the game 43-29. Given the Mariners' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 541st, while the Pirates are ranked 1180th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Aptos' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Berkeley Ashby, who posted eight points along with six rebounds and three steals. Ashby has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Abby Sherwood, who scored ten points and five boards.

Harbor's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Julianne Sanguinetti, who had eight points. Caley Rowe was another key player, putting up eight points.

Aptos is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season. As for Harbor, their defeat was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-14.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Aptos will venture away from home to challenge Scotts Valley at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Scotts Valley will roll in looking for their 11th straight victory, something Aptos surely won't give up without a fight. As for Harbor, they are taking a road trip to face off against Santa Cruz at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
