Basketball Recap: Azaria Nelson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Rio Lindo Adventist over Trinity Prep

Rio Lindo Adventist was the 42-40 winner over Trinity Prep when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Rio Lindo Adventist Spartans took a 34-29 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Trinity Prep Crusaders.

Rio Lindo Adventist lost on Thursday despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Azaria Nelson, who posted eight points and ten boards. She is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last nine games she's played. Maddy Gibson was another key player, putting up six points in addition to nine rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, Rio Lindo Adventist smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds every time they've taken the court this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Trinity Prep to victory, but perhaps none more so than Avigail McDonald, who went 7-for-16 to rack up 21 points and five boards. That makes it eight consecutive games in which McDonald has scored at least a third of Trinity Prep's points. Bella Ayala also deserves some recognition as she grabbed her first steal of the season.

Rio Lindo Adventist's loss dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Trinity Prep, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 14-4.
