Basketball Recap: Upland Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Alani Green and Ariyana Velasquez

After flying high against Lucerne Valley last Monday, Upland came back down to earth. The Upland Highlanders/Scots lost 56-33 to the Chino Hills Huskies on Wednesday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Huskies this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 42-34 last Wednesday.

Upland's loss came despite strong showings from Ariyana Velasquez and Alani Green. Velasquez dropped a double-double with 11 points and ten boards, while Green posted five points. Those 11 points gave Velasquez a new career-high.

Even though they lost, Upland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Chino Hills to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kiani Mayhan, who had ten points along with five rebounds and four steals. Another player making a difference was Kaylee Salce, who put up 13 points and seven boards.

Upland has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 12-14 record this season. As for Chino Hills, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-10.

Upland wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 73-28 loss against Alta Loma on the 31st. As for Chino Hills, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, an 80-27 defeat against Etiwanda on the 31st.
