Baseball Game Preview: Carrollton Trojans vs. Newton Rams

The Carrollton Trojans will square off against the Newton Rams at 5:55 p.m. on Thursday. Carrollton is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last six games.

Carrollton is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Whitewater with a sharp 15-6 win on Wednesday. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.

Meanwhile, while it was Newton who put the first points on the board on Wednesday, it was Rockdale County who put up more. Newton fell just short of Rockdale County by a score of 8-7.

Caden Brown was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in hits.

In other batting news, Chris Guillory was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. Brandon Scott was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Carrollton's victory bumped their record up to 12-5. As for Newton, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-6.
