Baseball Recap: Thursday's Victory Is Scholars Guild Academy's Ninth in Last Ten Outings

Scholars Guild Academy got themselves on the board against Lanier Christian Academy on Thursday, but Lanier Christian Academy never followed suit. They were the clear victors by an 11-0 margin over the Lightning. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by eight runs or more this season.

Jacob Chupp was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Henry Rumble was incredible, scoring two runs while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Scholars Guild Academy's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 6-7 when he doesn't). Ty Newton was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Scholars Guild Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.1 runs over those games. As for Lanier Christian Academy, they now have a losing record of 5-6.

Looking ahead, Scholars Guild Academy will square off against North Georgia HomeSchool at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in the Spartans' favor as the squad sits on 12 straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while the Tribe have been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road. Lanier Christian Academy has already played their next contest (against Victory Baptist), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
