Football Recap: Union Grove Takes a Loss + How To Watch

After flying high against Cushing last Friday, Union Grove came back down to earth. The Lions were outmatched by the Waskom Wildcats and fell 54-21. The Lions were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 40-14.

Brycen Porter and Carter Cooper certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Porter threw for 56 yards and two TDs, while Cooper picked up 25 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Chris Hernandez was a one-man wrecking crew For Waskom. as he rushed for 148 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only ten carries, and also threw for 59 yards and two TDs. With that strong performance, Hernandez is now averaging an impressive 117.5 rushing yards per game.

Having lost for the first time this season, Union Grove fell to 3-1. As for Waskom, their win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-1.

Coming up, Union Grove will face off against Hawkins at 7:00 p.m. on the 26th. The Lions will be up against the Hawks' rather soft defense (which has allowed 26.75 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Waskom, they will take on Ore City at 7:00 p.m. on the 26th. The Rebels will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each game than the last.
