Basketball Recap: New Castle Comes Up Short

New Castle was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They took a 49-30 bruising from the Mars Fightin' Planets. While losing is never fun, the Hurricanes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 416th, while the Fightin' Planets are ranked 89th).

Mars' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Alexis Cashdollar, who posted nine points and three steals. Emma Bloom also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

New Castle's loss dropped their record down to 2-11. As for Mars, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season.

New Castle will head out to square off against West Allegheny at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Mars, they will be playing at home against Chartiers Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
