Softball Recap: Doherty Takes a Loss

Doherty extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to nine on Tuesday, dropping them down to 0-3. They lost 14-4 to the Douglas County Huskies. If the Spartans were looking for revenge after losing 15-0 to the Huskies when the teams met back in September of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Doherty saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cayla Baker, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

As for Douglas County, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-2. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Douglas County's side, Shelby Ford made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Ford was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those runs were her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nicole Morrison, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases and three runs. Another player making a difference was Hayley Rice, who earned three runs and five stolen bases.

Doherty has already played their next contest, a 16-0 loss against Pueblo West on the 4th. As for Douglas County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 12-7 win against Dakota Ridge on the 3rd.
