The Southwestern Academy Sun and the Waverly Ravens will face off at 4:30 p.m. on January 19th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around on Friday.
Southwestern Academy suffered their biggest loss since November 21, 2023 on Tuesday. They were beaten by Mesrobian 63-27. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Southwestern Academy has suffered against Mesrobian since January 22, 2019.
Valza Jusufi put forth a good effort for the losing side as she dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds. That was a full 59.3% of Southwestern Academy's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Marifer Durand, who scored two points along with seven steals.
Meanwhile, Waverly's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They were dealt a 63-4 defeat at the hands of The Webb Schools. Waverly was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-2.
Southwestern Academy's loss was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 2-9. As for Waverly, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.
Southwestern Academy skirted past Waverly 18-16 in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. Will Southwestern Academy repeat their success, or does Waverly have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
