Softball Recap: Polk County Takes a Loss

Polk County had lost four straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 5-21 to make it five. They came up short against the Kearney Catholic Stars, falling 12-1. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Slammers couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Kearney Catholic, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games.

For Kearney Catholic's part, Raegan Ruyle made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Ruyle has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tessa Colling, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 13 contests. Another player making a difference was Kynlee Ruyle, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

As of now, neither Polk County nor Kearney Catholic have any future games scheduled.
