Baseball Game Preview: Wesleyan Wolves vs. St. Francis Knights

Wesleyan is a perfect 7-0 against St. Francis since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Wesleyan Wolves will be playing in front of their home fans against the St. Francis Knights at 5:30 p.m. This will be Wesleyan's first chance to prove their worth in the conference.

On Friday, Wesleyan needed a bit of extra time to put away Providence Christian Academy. They had just enough and edged out the Storm 3-2.

Grayson McCollum was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Wesleyan is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-3 otherwise. McCollum was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.

In other pitching news, Thomas Pressman tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off seven hits (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Wesleyan is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 2-3 otherwise.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. Francis). They were the clear victor by a 9-2 margin over Mt. Bethel Christian Academy on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for the Knights in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won nine in a row.

Wesleyan has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.2 runs over those games. St. Francis' win bumped their record up to 2-5.

Wesleyan beat St. Francis 4-1 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Does Wesleyan have another victory up their sleeve, or will St. Francis turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
