Otilia Sua leads Mater Dei Catholic to victory over Oceanside

Recap: Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders vs. Oceanside Pirates

The Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders waltzed into their game on Saturday with two straight wins but they left with three. They managed a 37-33 win over Oceanside. For Mater Dei Catholic, this counts as revenge for the 43-38 defeat Oceanside walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2023.

Otilia Sua was the offensive standout of the game as she scored 11 points along with six rebounds and two steals.

When it comes to explaining why Oceanside lost, one person who can't be blamed is Martina Griffin. Despite the final result, she scored 22 points along with eight rebounds and seven steals. Griffin hasn't dropped below two steals for 16 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubrey Madden, who scored no points along with ten rebounds and six steals.

Even though they lost, Oceanside smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mater Dei Catholic only pulled down five offensive rebounds.

Mater Dei Catholic's win bumped their record up to 7-8. As for Oceanside, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-4.

Mater Dei Catholic will head out on the road to square off against Victory Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Oceanside, they will be playing at home against La Costa Canyon at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
