San Augustine senior not only leads the Lone Star State in swipes, but also the nation.

There's plenty of speed in Texas, but Tycorion Porter of San Augustine uses it best on the baseball diamond.

The senior shortstop and pitcher not only leads the state but also the nation in stolen bases with 62. He did it in 24 games for the Wolves, who finished their season Saturday with a record of 15-11.

Porter recorded six steals in three different games.

The only other player in the state with at least 40 steals is Carter sophomore Fabian Martinez, who stole 43 in just 15 games. Martinez hit .625 (25 of 40), stole nine bases in a 16-0 win over Roosevelt and had two other games with seven.

In all, more than 50 players from the state have stole at least 26 bases.
