Basketball Recap: Rank Disadvantage No Problem for Blue Mountain

Blue Mountain lost to Schuylkill Haven back in December of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The Blue Mountain Eagles had just enough and edged the Schuylkill Haven Hurricanes out 52-49. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Eagles' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 448th, while the Hurricanes are ranked 115th).

Despite the loss, Schuylkill Haven saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Mckenna Runkle posted 19 points. The dominant performance gave Runkle a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Alea Porter, who scored eight points.

The win snapped Blue Mountain's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 2-6 record. As for Schuylkill Haven, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 11-4.

Blue Mountain will host Tamaqua at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Schuylkill Haven, they will venture away from home to challenge Pottsville at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
