Football Game Preview: Hutchinson Salthawks vs. Newton Railroaders + How To Watch

Hutchinson has gone 8-2 against Newton recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Salthawks will head out on the road to face off against the Railroaders at 7:00 p.m. Hutchinson will be strutting in after a victory while Newton will be coming in after a defeat.

Hutchinson's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They breezed past Haysville Campus to the tune of 42-0. The matchup marked the Salthawks' most dominant win of the season.

Robert Hunter was nothing short of spectacular: he rushed for 156 yards and one score on only ten carries, and also threw for 147 yards and three TDs. His longest rush was for an impressive 62 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Larry Jeremiah also helped with two touchdowns in total.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Hutchinson was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 253 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in November of 2024.

Hutchinson didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Eli Parks and Lian Hedricks. Another thorn in Haysville Campus' side was Jackson Anderson, who picked up a sack and made 11 total tackles (1.5 for loss).

Meanwhile, Newton scored the most points they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They lost to Andover on the road by a 42-27 margin. The Railroaders have struggled against the Trojans recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Hutchinson will have to keep a close watch on Kolbie Espada and Landyn Rains, a pair of players who had a big impact on Newton's prior game. Espada rushed for 45 yards and a pair of TDs, while Rains picked up 84 receiving yards and one score.

Newton's loss dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Hutchinson, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2.

Everything came up roses for Hutchinson against Newton in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 56-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Salthawks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
