Recap: Rio Linda Knights vs. West Campus Warriors
On Friday, Rio Linda ended up a good deal behind West Campus and lost 58-43. While losing is never fun, Rio Linda can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 480th, while West Campus is ranked 121st).
Despite the defeat, Rio Linda saw an underclassman step up: Kyrri Mitchell scored 12 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Mitchell continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of LaRay Mitchell, who scored 8 points along with 5 assists and 5 steals.
Among those leading the charge was Leilani Edinburgh, who scored 25 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of West Campus' points. Another player making a difference was Esabel Otsuji, who scored 15 points.
Rio Linda's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for West Campus, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-1.
Rio Linda will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Oakmont at 2:00 p.m. on December 2nd. Oakmont's defense has only allowed 28.8 points per game this season, so Rio Linda's offense will have their work cut out for Rio Linda. As for West Campus, they will take on Twelve Bridges at TBD on Saturday.
