Football Game Preview: Southern Choctaw Indians vs. Fruitdale Pirates

The Southern Choctaw Indians are taking a road trip to face off against the Fruitdale Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Southern Choctaw is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

On Friday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Southern Choctaw beat Linden 14-8. Those 14 points were actually the fewest the Indians have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

The critical scores for Southern Choctaw came from Kyller Nicholson and Christopher Bush.

Southern Choctaw didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Daylan Coker, Jerdarius Nickelson, and Kemarian Nickelson picked up one apiece. Kemarian is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in each of the last four games he's played.

Meanwhile, Fruitdale had to suffer through a 48-20 loss at the hands of Chickasaw. The defeat continues a trend for the Pirates in their meetings with the Chieftains: they've now lost five in a row.

Southern Choctaw's victory bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Fruitdale, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.

Everything came up roses for Southern Choctaw against Fruitdale in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 44-12 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Indians since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
