Softball Game Preview: Nixon Mustangs vs. Mission Eagles

For the first time this season, Nixon will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will venture away from home to square off against the Mission Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

United hit Nixon with a four-run second inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Mustangs came up short against the Longhorns, falling 9-3. The defeat continues a trend for the Mustangs in their meetings with the Longhorns: they've now lost four in a row.

Ruby Ibarra was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Meanwhile, Mission got the win against McAllen Memorial on Friday by a conclusive 15-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.

Pamela Avalos was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one triple. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ilia Fiscal, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI.

Mission's record is now 2-0. As for Nixon, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Nixon suffered a grim 10-4 defeat to Mission when the teams last played back in March of 2025. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
