Basketball Recap: Sanger Comes Up Short

Sanger lost against Torres back in November of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Sanger Apaches took a hard 46-27 fall against the Torres Toros. The Apaches have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why Sanger lost, don't look at Ashley Robles. Despite the final result, she posted ten points.

Even though they lost, Sanger smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in six consecutive matches.

Torres got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jillian Villalobos out in front who put up 11 points. Villalobos has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Ariana Garcia, who scored six points along with eight rebounds and five steals.

Sanger's loss dropped their record down to 12-11. As for Torres, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 14 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season.

Sanger has already played their next game (against Hoover), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Torres will venture away from home to take on Edison at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Torres is facing Edison at the right time seeing as Edison is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
