Basketball Recap: Gregory Comes Up Short on the Road Against St. Mary's

Gregory kicked off their season on the road on Thursday and hit a couple of potholes. They came up short against the St. Mary's Cardinals, falling 64-43. The Gorillas have struggled against the Cardinals recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

When it comes to explaining why Gregory lost, don't look at Cole Serr. Despite the final result, he went 8 for 12 on his way to 20 points and seven rebounds. Those 20 points gave Serr a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Cruz Klundt, who posted seven points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Gregory smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Mary's only pulled down four offensive rebounds.

St. Mary's was led to victory by Gage Hedstrom and Logan Brabec. Hedstrom went 10 of 14 on his way to 30 points and seven rebounds, while Brabec went 7 of 14 on his way to 21 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Drake Berg, who put up six points.

St. Mary's pushed their record up to 4-0 with the win, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season.

Gregory will host Chamberlain at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for St. Mary's, they will venture away from home to take on Neligh-Oakdale at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Mary's is facing Neligh-Oakdale at the right time seeing as Neligh-Oakdale is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
