Cheshire extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 12-8. They took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Southington Blue Knights. If the Rams were looking for revenge after losing 7-2 to the Blue Knights when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Cheshire got a good showing from Michael Delaney, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Delaney has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Johnny Nelson was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Max Enders also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
As for Southington, they are on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 15 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games.
On Southington's side, Tyler Tortora got the start for Southington and what a start it was: he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. What's more, Tortora posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Connor Lentini, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs. Another player making a difference was Ethan Herens, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Cheshire didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-1 loss against Hand on the 22nd. As for Southington, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 3-2 victory against Lewis Mills on the 22nd.
