Baseball Recap: Brookstone Extends Winning Streak to Four

Brookstone won against Marion County last Thursday with 13 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. Everything went the Brookstone Cougars' way against the Tiftarea Academy Panthers as the Brookstone Cougars made off with a 13-1 victory. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by 11 runs or more this season.

Brennan Neal made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

In other pitching news, Chanwoo Kim looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Gray Jones was a standout: he scored three runs while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Luke Vael was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four RBI.

Brookstone was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

The win (which was Brookstone's fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Tiftarea Academy, they dropped their record down to 1-4 with the loss, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.

Coming up, Brookstone will challenge Terrell Academy at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Tiftarea Academy, they will square off against Citizens Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Tiftarea Academy has given up an average of 6.6 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
