Soccer Game Preview: Nitro vs. Charleston Catholic

Nitro is 0-6 against Charleston Catholic since September of 2015 but things could change on Thursday. The Wildcats will head out to challenge the Irish at 7:00 p.m. Neither team made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

Nitro is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of West Virginia's top teams: Hurricane, who was ranked ninth at the time (Nitro was ranked 12th). The Wildcats took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Redskins on Saturday. The shutout was out of character for Nitro seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in August.

Meanwhile, Charleston Catholic's game on Tuesday was all tied up 0-0 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They fell just short of Hurricane by a score of 1-0. That's two games in a row now that Charleston Catholic have lost by just one goal.

Charleston Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 7-6-1. As for Nitro, their loss dropped their record down to 12-4-1.

Nitro might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Charleston Catholic in their previous meeting back in September of 2024. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
