High school basketball: No. 4 Gonzaga blows past top-ranked Roosevelt 73-55 at Hoophall Classic

All five starters scored in double figures to lead the Eagles to lopsided win.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — All five starters scored in double figures for No. 4 Gonzaga (Washington, D.C.) as it upended No. 1 Roosevelt (Eastvale, Calif.) 73-55 at the Hoophall Classic on Monday.

Gonzaga used a strong third and fourth quarter to open things up late and cruise to the win.

Harvard pledge Alex Touomou led all scorers with 17 points to go along with six rebounds and three assists in the win. Virginia Tech signee Christian Gurdak piled up 11 points and 18 rebounds while Xavier signee Nykolas Lewis chipped in 11 points, 10 assists and six rebounds. North Carolina signee Derek Dixon contributed 14 points, four rebounds and four assists.

Gonzaga led 32-30 at the half before beginning to stretch things out in the third quarter. Runs of 6-0 and 12-2 in the fourth quarter pushed the lead to as many as 20 and put it away for the WCAC power.

Gonzaga dominated the box score, shooting 52.8 percent from the field and 50 percent from 3-point range while snagging 45 rebounds. Roosevelt shot 36.5 percent from the field, 16.0 percent from 3-point range and grabbed just 22 boards in the loss.

Gonzaga (17-2) returns to the court on Friday for a WCAC showdown with No. 25 St. John's (Washington, D.C.). The Eagles have a brutal upcoming stretch of games that includes No. 20 DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.), No. 17 Paul VI (Chantilly, Va.) and National Top 10 No. 10 Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) over their next four.



Roosevelt (23-2) closes out the regular season against Corona (Calif.) on Thursday before taking on Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, Nev.) on Saturday.
