Softball Recap: Ralston Comes Up Short

Ralston extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping them down to 17-6. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 1-0 heartbreaker at the hands of the Ashland-Greenwood Bluejays. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Bluejays this season, with their most recent defeat being a 2-0 loss on Thursday.

Makenzie Macrander spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 20 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Maddie Ochsner was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one double.

As for Ashland-Greenwood, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 13-9. Give their pitching crew some credit: that's the team's fourth straight shutout.

On Ashland-Greenwood's side, the result came thanks to Sofia Dill's shutout, as she gave up just four hits and racked up nine Ks.

At the plate, Ashland-Greenwood's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Ellie Milburn, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ralston will welcome Yutan-Mead at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Ashland-Greenwood, they will square off against Bishop Neumann at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
