Softball Recap: Gunnison's Win on Saturday Extends Winning Streak to Four

Gunnison waltzed into their contest on Saturday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They put the hurt on the Basalt Longhorns with a sharp 15-5 win. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 16-5 on Saturday.

Reese Japuntich made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in September. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI.

In other batting news, Maddy Bacalis was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs. Audrey Meeuwsen was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four runs.

Gunnison always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .606. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .525 or higher in four consecutive matchups.

Gunnison now has a winning record of 12-11. As for Basalt, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-18 record this season.

As of now, neither Gunnison nor Basalt have any future games scheduled.
