Duncanville, Centennial, Paul VI and Imhotep Charter are top contenders to challenge Dave Boff's Lions this season.

After releasing our Preseason National Top 10 last week, today we unveil the Preseason MaxPreps Top 25 high school basketball rankings. Multiple states hit the floor this week with the majority joining the action over the next month.

Roselle Catholic (Roselle, N.J.) begins the season as our team to beat after capturing its fifth New Jersey Tournament of Champions title last season to finish the year ranked No. 4 nationally with a record of 29-2.

The Lions look to continue their ascension this season behind one of the most lethal one-two punches in high school basketball in MacKenzie Mgbako and Simeon Wilcher. Both Mgbako and Wilcher earned first team MaxPreps Junior All-America honors last season.

Mgbako is regarded as the No. 5 ranked prospect in the Class of 2023 according to 247Sports while Wilcher checks in at No. 28. The teammates will go onto be rivals at the next level as Mgbako is committed to Duke and Wilcher is headed to North Carolina.

Alongside that duo,  Richard Brisco, Christian Pierre-Louis, Akil Watson and Tarik Watson return for the Lions to aid their run at a national title in 2022-23.

Duncanville (Texas) and Centennial (Corona, Calif.), who finished the season ranked No. 1 and No. 2 last season respectively, appear to be Roselle Catholic's biggest challengers for the national title. Paul VI (Chantilly, Va.), Imhotep Charter (Philadelphia), Camden (N.J.) and Wheeler (Marietta, Ga.) are other top contenders.

In breaking news just days before the release of the Preseason MaxPreps Top 25, Duncanville was stripped of its 2022 Class 6A state title in Texas and head coach David Peavy has been given a one-year suspension according to multiple media outlets reports. Despite being without their head coach, the Panthers remain contenders to defend their national title barring any last minutes changes to the roster.
