Basketball Recap: Eisenhower Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Lainey Font and Clara Steinberg

Eisenhower has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 58-52 heartbreaker at the hands of the Wilmington Greyhounds. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 274th, while the Greyhounds are ranked 93rd).

Eisenhower's loss on Saturday came despite strong showings from Clara Steinberg and Lainey Font. Steinberg went 9-for-17 to rack up 20 points in addition to six assists and six boards, while Font posted 15 points and six rebounds. That was a full 38.5% of Eisenhower's points, marking the 23rd time in a row Steinberg has earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Laney Belcher, who scored nine points.

They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Eisenhower was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. This was only their fourth loss (out of 21 games) when they've passed the ball that well.

Eisenhower's defeat dropped their record down to 17-8. As for Wilmington, their win bumped their record up to 21-4.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Eisenhower will take on Bishop McCort at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Eisenhower is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.5 points per game this season. As for Wilmington, they will challenge Penns Manor at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
